A Cochrane review of 17 trials found evidence that cold water immersion reduced muscle soreness in the days after strenuous exercise, compared with doing nothing.¹ Later systematic reviews and meta-analyses point the same direction: better perceived recovery, less soreness, and improved short-term readiness after tough sessions, especially endurance and high-intensity work.²
